Calliope Callias , PhD is a NY State Licensed Clinical Psychologist, a relational psychotherapist and a Focusing Trainer in Private Practice.  She is also an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Psychology at the Derner Institute of Adelphi University, a Clinical Supervisor for the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, and a Coach for the Focusing Institute.

Calliope earned her Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from Adelphi University and holds a Master’s degree in Community Psychology from New York University, as well as a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Adelphi University.  During her college years she transferred from Deree, The American College of Greece, and completed her Bachelor’s degree at Rutgers College of Rutgers University.

In addition to her formal education, Calliope has had extensive training in a number of psychotherapy orientations and spiritual practices including Focusing Oriented and Relational Psychotherapy, Gestalt therapy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Mindfulness and Meditation.  Calliope believes we are all forever students of life.  She is continuously expanding her knowledge in psychology, as well as other complementary and spiritual practices.

Her clinical experience extends back to 1986.  She has worked as a psychologist, mental health professional, clinical coordinator, staff trainer and as a consultant in various facilities, including universities, hospitals, mental health clinics, and programs for substance abuse and developmental disabilities.  She has helped people from various cultural and racial backgrounds, and sexual orientation.

She has participated in the development and execution of various research projects to promote psychology and psychotherapy as a science.  Projects included themes on psychoanalytic psychotherapy, alcohol abuse, trauma recovery, childhood sexual abuse, self-injurious behaviors and achievement motives.

Calliope has presented and continues to present nationally and internationally on various psychological topics.  She also loves to hold experiential workshops and teach focusing in groups.
